Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
